About our client

The Laura Hyde Foundation (LHF) was established in 2017 to ensure that all medical and emergency services personnel have access to the best mental health support network possible. It was founded by Liam Barnes after his cousin Laura, a naval nurse, died by suicide in 2016.

They are a small charity with big ambition. With such a significant UK-wide need to improve the mental health landscape for these professions, after initially focusing on delivering local awareness and fundraising events in the Plymouth area, they’ve rapidly developed a national offering which is already officially recognised by 49 NHS trusts.

The brief

RETHINK helped LHF to elevate their message though the creation of a clear and consistent brand identity across their marketing assets and information materials. From initially designing their logo and supporting the development of their brand identity, RETHINK continues to support LHF with a range of campaigns through the delivery of a vast suite of campaign assets, information materials and merchandise. This included their ‘Start the Conversation’ campaign which in late 2019 saw the UK-wide distribution of 14,000 badges over 3 months – reaching 157 hospitals, and 101 different roles.

Working together

“When RETHINK’s logo idea landed, straightaway every trustee and those associated with the charity said that’s the one!” explained Liam Barnes, Founder of the Laura Hyde Foundation.

“It summarised what, as a charity, we were looking to do and represented. They did this free of charge, and from there we’ve built up a professional relationship based on trust and expertise.

“Making sure all collateral remains consistent to our message and the principles of our brand is important. Whether we are talking about a helpline poster, support information materials or who we are – the same colour scheme, font, messaging and visuals is what creates that brand recognition and affinity. RETHINK are brilliant at this.

“Justin, RETHINK’s Managing Director, has really bought in to what we were trying to do and there is a sense of ownership which he has clearly felt. He understood the cause we champion, and has taken a level of responsibility on his shoulders to be able to deliver quality results.”

“There have been times when he has been able to take a few sentences from a verbal brief and create some amazing visual content, with very few amends on the designs and copy. We really value his expertise – if he pushes back on something, then we know it’s definitely a point or area we need to consider more carefully.”

“When there have been tight project deadlines, they made it happen. We have a very collaborative partnership where RETHINK has essentially become an extended part of our team.”
